Chemical properties of hexamethylphosphoramide

1. Stable at room temperature and pressure, away from oxides.
2. A colorless, transparent, and easily flowing liquid that can dissolve in various polar and non-polar solvents such as water, alcohols, ethers, esters, ketones, benzene, hydrocarbons, halogenated hydrocarbons, etc. It is miscible with water, but forms complexes with chloroform and other substances. HMPA has a large dipole moment and strong alkalinity, making it a typical polar non proton solvent. Can dissolve alkali metals and alkaline earth metals. It can also effectively dissolve polymer compounds such as polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyacrylonitrile, polyester, polyether, polyvinyl alcohol, polyamide, polyurethane, polysulfide amide, and nitrocellulose. This product has low toxicity. Operators should wear protective equipment to avoid contact with this product.
3. Chemical properties: Hexamethylphosphoramide (HMPA) is very stable in alkaline aqueous solutions. For example, in a 4mol/L sodium hydroxide solution, there is almost no change when kept at 100 ℃ for several hours, and hydrolysis only begins above 110 ℃. But it is more easily hydrolyzed under acidic conditions. HMPA can form crystalline complexes with Lewis acids, organic compounds containing active hydrogen, metal salts, organic metal compounds, etc. Such as HMPA · BF3 (melting point 175 ℃), HMPA · POCl3 (melting point 170-180 ℃), (HMPA) 2 · C6H4 (COOH) 2, HMPA · C6H5NH2, (HMPA) 2 · C6H4 (OH) 2 (melting point 152 ℃), etc.
4. Has strong hygroscopicity, but can be stored for a long time in the presence of molecular sieves. Due to its certain biological activity, it is recommended to avoid contact with the skin during use.
